How to Apply

Please follow all instructions from 1-8 regarding How to Apply.

Prior to your arrival at the Consulate for your in-person interview, you must book an appointment on-line. Some appointment slots are reserved for certain visa categories. This allows us to accomodate priority and/or time sensitive appointments efficiently. For example, if you are not a student, please do not book an appointment reserved for student visa applicants. You will be denied entry into the Consulate if you are not booked in the correct appointment time slot. This final step is at the bottom of this page, please scroll down.  Also, bring all original documents as they will be returned to you the same day.

You must have the following items/documents in hand when applying for your non-immigrant visa in person at the Consulate:

1. Provide proof of permission to reside in Bermuda, which may be proof of Bermuda status, working resident status, a spousal permit, or a work permit. Landing permits are no longer accepted.

2. Provide a valid passport with at least six months remaining until the expiration date and one clear page to put the visa onto.  

3. Provide one U.S. passport photo taken within the past six months. For more information please go to photo requirements.

4. Pay a $131 cash application fee, in either US or Bermuda dollars or a combination of both, no checks or credit cards please. This fee is non-refundable. There may be an additional fee (called a reciprocity fee) for certain nationalities and/or types of visas. If the visa is issued, this reciprocity fee can be paid by cash or credit card.

5. Provide birth certificates of applying minor children of visa applicants. In addition, if the applicant is your minor child you will also need to provide the child's birth certificate.

6. Complete form(s):

  • DS-156 which must be completed by all applicants on-line at http://evisaforms.state.gov. All spaces must be filled in with complete information or marked as not applicable (n/a). Please note, this document does not get electronically submitted to the Consulate. Once completed, you will be instructed to print it off and bring to your interview. You will notice a large bar code on the last page of the document, you will need this barcode number to book your appointment online. Please make sure that your application is is signed and dated before handing it in to the visa assistants.
  • DS-157 for male applicants between the ages of 16 and 45 only. All spaces must be filled in with complete information or marked as not applicable (n/a), signed, and dated.

7. Please follow these links for further information about student, employment, and crew visas. Please note: Out-of-District applicants require approval from the visa section prior to arrival in Bermuda.

8. Once you have completed steps 1-6 (where applicable) you must now book an appointment online. Click here now.Again, some appointment slots are reserved for certain visa categories. This allows us to accomodate priority and/or time sensitive appointments efficiently. For example, if you are not a student, please do not book an appointment reserved for student visa applicants. You will be denied entry into the Consulate if you are not booked in the correct appointment time slot.

As of October 15, 2006 all applicants must complete form DS-156 on-line prior to coming to the Consulate to complete the application process. If you do not have internet access please visit your local library or internet cafe to complete this form.
