Immediate Relatives

Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens are eligible to qualify for immigration in the Immediate Relative category. These categories are:

  1. Spouse or Minor Child of a U.S. Citizen: An immigrant visa may only be processed for a child if he/she has no claim to U.S. citizenship.
  2.  
  3. Parent of a U.S. citizen: U.S. citizen must be 21 or over.

  4. Step-parent or step-child of a U.S. citizen: Step-parent, step-child relationship must occur before the child’s 18th birthday.

  5. Spouse of a deceased U.S. citizen: Petition must be filed within 2 years of the death of the U.S. citizen.

Information for U.S. Citizens filing petitions for alien relatives (1-130)
Immediate Relative petitions (I-130) can be processed for both Immediate Relatives and Family Based Immigration. Please go to our Visa Hours page for the appointment times for I-130 Petition processing or please call the Consulate at (441) 295-1342 x 227 to make an appointment.  

Please note: The U.S. Consulate General in Hamilton, Bermuda, is authorized to accept and approve Immediate Relative (I-130 Petitions) for the following categories:

  1. Spouse of a U.S. Citizen who is domiciled in Bermuda
     
  2. Minor children of a U.S. Citizen who is domiciled in Bermuda

  3. Parent of a U.S. Citizen who is domiciled in Bermuda
