Cost of US passport increases today

The cost of an American passport went up by three to eight dollars today.

Fees are being adjusted world-wide to cover the cost of providing efficient and secure passport services including infrastructure, technology and staff.

Adult passports will increase from $97 to $100, and children's passports will increase from $82 to $85. Adult passport renewals will increase from $67 to $75.

The new fee schedule starts today.

Another change is that children under the age of 16 will not be granted a passport unless their parents attend the US Consulate with them. The age used to be 14.
