Singers for a cause

A concert featuring three of Harvard’s finest singing ensembles raised over $2,000 for a local charity yesterday.

The Krokodiloes, the Radcliffe Pitches and the Harvard Din and Tonics all performed at the Anglican Cathedral in a free concert for Habitat for Humanity Bermuda, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, which builds homes for those in need.

The concert was organised by US Consul General Gregory Slayton and was free, however, the public was encouraged to give donations to the charity upon entering the Cathedral.

Larry Williams, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Bermuda, said: “The concert was brilliant. You never know with these things and I was so pleased to see so many people there.

“We’re also very pleased with US Consul Mr. Slayton’s offer of generosity to match whatever we raised today.”

Every year the three Harvard singing groups travel to Bermuda on their week-long spring break to entertain at different venues on the Island, including the Reefs, Pompano Beach Club and the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

This was the first time, however, the ensembles had participated in a charity event in Bermuda and Mr. Slayton said all three were excited about participating.

Mr. Slayton added: “I thought it went great and there were 200 or more people so we’ll hopefully do it every year.”
