Released: May 21/10 - US Consulate Announces Fee Increases
Effective June 4, 2010, the U.S. Consulate will charge new fees for the processing of nonimmigrant visa (NIV) applications, also called the Machine-Readable Visas (MRVs). The new rules also establish a tiered structure with separate fees for different visa categories. The State Department is required by law to recover the cost of processing NIVs through the collection of the MRV fee. The fees accurately reflect the processing costs incurred; regulations require full cost recovery through fees.
Applicants for B1/B2 tourist/ business visitor visa, and all student and exchange-visitor visas will pay a fee of $140.
Applicants for petition-based visas will pay an application fee of $150, including H visas for temporary workers and trainees; L visas for intra-company transferees; O visas for aliens with extraordinary ability; P visas for athletes, artists, and entertainers; Q visas for international cultural exchange visitors; and R visas for religious occupations.
K visas for fiancés of U.S. citizens will be $350. The fee for E visas for treaty-traders and treaty-investors will be $390.
